Meetings held on 2nd Tuesday of every month
January 9th - "Preconception"
by Dr. Darrell Volschke, DC and Julie Pettler, Herbalist
This is our first time hosting a meeting about the months before a woman becomes pregnant. Mental and physical health play a role in a couple's ability to conceive, maintain a pregnancy and birth a beautiful baby. Nutrition, physical fitness, hormones, and many other factors affect fertility and a baby's development. Strategies to optimize both mom's and dad's health in preparation for pregnancy will be discussed.
February 13th - "Comfort Measures"
by Jessica McKee & Tiffany Shank
Area doulas will share tips for increasing comfort during labor. Massage, movement, warmth and encouraging words can all have a profound effect on a laboring woman. Continuous labor support has been shown to decrease chances of a c-section and use of anesthesia. Women who receive continuous support are also more likely to report satisfaction with their labors. This is a great meeting for partners to attend. If you're lucky, you may be the lucky recipient of a massage.
March 13th - "Herbs for Pregnancy and Babies"
by Geo Derick Giordano, MSc, RH
Many women want to decrease or eliminate their use of prescription and over-the-counter medications during pregnancy. Geo Giordano, Registered Medical Herbalist, will share herbal strategies for dealing with common discomforts such as allergies and headaches. Once baby arrives, rashes and tummy troubles can have parents scrambling to find ways to comfort an uncomfortable newborn. Creams and medications may provide some relief without addressing the root cause. Geo will explain common causes of skin and digestive discomfort and offer strategies for health and healing.
