January 8th - "Moms' Talk"
Please join us for this powerful evening. In the telling and the listening, we all benefit from the sharing of our stories. Several moms will share their recent birth stories with us. There are often tears, laugher and lots of cute babies at this meeting!
February 12th - "Comfort Measures"
by Jessica McKee & Marielle Fusaro, doulas at Flourish Birth Services
Area doulas will share tips for increasing comfort during labor. Massage, movement, warmth and encouraging words can all have a profound effect on a laboring woman. Continuous labor support has been shown to decrease chances of a c-section and use of anesthesia. Women who receive continuous support are also more likely to report satisfaction with their labors. This is a great meeting for partners to attend. If you're lucky, you may be the lucky recipient of a massage.
March 12th - "Chiropractic Care during Pregnancy"

Chiropractic care during pregnancy has been shown to increase a mother's comfort, help ensure proper positioning of the mother's pelvis and can decrease length of labor. Dr. Darrell Volschke, owner of Active Health Chiropractic, will speak about the Webster Technique, nutrition and exercise during pregnancy. Please join us as we explore way to improve health during pregnancy and postpartum.
April 9th - "Dancing for Birth"

Garland will discuss the uses and benefits of specific dance movements for pregnancy, labor and postpartum. She'll demonstrate the fundamental elements of a Dancing for Birth class, and yes, you'll have the chance to dance! Dancing For Birth is a childbirth preparation class for pregnant and new mothers that incorporates labor techniques, childbirth education and a celebration of motherhood. No dance experience or skill is required :) Join us for a fun and movement-filled evening! If you'd rather just soak up the information and save the dance moves for your living room, that's fine, too!
May 14th - "Mindfulness Techniques for Labor and Birth"

Heather will be talking to us about mindfulness techniques that may be used during pregnancy and labor to transform your experience. A mindful approach to fear and pain can have a profound affect on your birth experience. This will be an interactive workshop with handouts and practice using mindfulness exercises. The skills learned in this meeting will also be useful throughout your parenting years :)
June 11th - "Dads' Talk"
Men are always welcome at our meetings, but this one is especially for dads. Join us as several dads share the challenges, fears, surprises, and joys of labor and birth. We all benefit from the sharing and hearing of stories.

August 13th - "An Herbal Approach to the Childbearing Years"
by Julie Pettler, herbalist
Herbal consultant, Julie Pettler, will discuss herbs that support a women’s health before, during and after pregnancy. She has trained with Aviva Romm, CNM, Herbalist, MD and specializes in fertility, pregnancy and postpartum health. Specific herbs, doses and herbal formulas will be discussed and there will be samples to taste and smell.
September 10th - "Menstrual Health Before and After Pregnancy"

Becki specializes in helping women address reproductive dysfunction and find holistic balance within their cycles, pelvic bowls, and lives. During this talk, she will discuss what to expect as your cycle returns postpartum, accurately define what a health cycle and period looks like, as well as provide tips for promoting healthy cycles as your body finds its balance after baby.
October 8th - "The 3 Ps of Labor"

Program at Shenandoah University
Dr. Juliana Fehr will present her famous talk about the Powers, the Passenger and the Pelvis. As she details the journey of a baby from the uterus into the arms of family, Juliana will touch upon ways to encourage the baby's movement and procedures which may impede progress. Please join us for a beautiful, practical, inspiring exploration of birth.
November 12th - "Babywearing and Breastfeeding"
